Selena Gomez made her grand return to audio with her “Single Soon” on Aug. 25. Gomez’s initial new tune considering that her Revelación album in 2021 is all about indicating goodbye to a marriage, sans the regular breakup tears. In its place, the upbeat monitor celebrates the reality that she’s on the street to staying ~one soon~. She sings, “I know he’ll be a mess / When I break the news / But I will be solitary shortly.” But Gomez didn’t occur up with this laissez-faire frame of mind towards breakups on her personal. During the song and tunes movie (and even her TikTok), Gomez subtly credited Sex & The Metropolis for inspiring the tune.

Forward of the song’s release, Gomez teased the song on TikTok by lip-syncing a Sexual intercourse & The Town second, featuring one icon Samantha Jones. In the scene, Samantha picks up the cellular phone. “Hello?” she asks. A person responds, “It’s about. I explained to my spouse.” Samantha then asks, “Who is this?” (For the TikTok, Gomez took on the part of Samantha, clearly.) Gomez’s TikTok even acquired Kim Cattrall’s stamp of approval. She replied to the video clip on Twitter, “I approve this message…💋.”

But the Intercourse & The Metropolis references didn’t end there. In the music, Gomez inquiries the most effective way to dump her boyfriend: “Should I do it on the cellular phone? / Really should I go away a little observe / In the pocket of his coat? / Maybe I’ll just disappear.” For the audio online video, she appeared specifically taken with the thought of leaving a “little note” — exclusively, a Write-up-It.

The camera follows her as she writes out a uncomplicated information: “I’m sorry I can not Really don’t dislike me.” Followers of SATC will don’t forget that Carrie Bradshaw been given the actual identical breakup note (down to the lacking punctuation!) from her Period 6 boyfriend Jack Berger.
